2021 Benefit Verification forms will NOT require a notary signature. Instead, an adult 18 years or older can sign as a witness.

By January 29, all annual 1099-R tax statements and biennial Benefit Verification forms will be mailed to the over 70,000 MTRS members who received a benefit payment in calendar year 2020.

In order to make this process safer for our retirees during the coronavirus pandemic, the MTRS is not requiring a notary signature on 2021 Benefit Verification forms. Instead of a notary signature, 2021 forms will require the signature of a witness who can be anyone 18 years of age or older and can include family members, friends, neighbors and more.

As noted in the instructions included with your forms, please be sure to complete and return your Benefit Verification form, in the pre-addressed envelope that is provided, by Friday, March 26, 2021.

If you do not receive your forms, which will arrive in the same envelope, by Wednesday, February 17, 2021, please call our main office at 617-679-6877.

As a reminder, eligible retirees received a one-time retroactive COLA in the December 2020 benefit payment. Thus, your January 2021 benefit payment will be lower and will be your new monthly gross. For additional information on the COLA please see our Retiree year-end news page.

For your reference, the pension payment schedule for 2021 is also included in the mailing.
